Taper Notes:
View NotesFor Dave from Sugarmegs, who suggested this project. These two sources compliment each other very well. The soundboard has crisp vocals which the audience recording lacks, and the audience has a better high end than the soundboard. Thanks to the tapers and seeders who made this possible. edited and matrixed SIRMick September 2010

Sound quality set 1 start is muddy. vocals low, get louder ~ 3:12 & (Band back on) and Bob Says "big hand for the rhythm devils ladies and gentlemen" ** From start until ~ 02:33 levels were clipping on master; I reduced levels ~5dB. / Our practice at the time was to stop the recorder after every time the band stopped. The theory was saving batteries and tape space. We would learn to record the entire show by Spring 83! This was our second recording we mastered! // tape flip //# tape switch 10:37 Red Rocks Amphitheatre Morrison CO Night 1 FRI July 27 1982 mic location- 75 feet from stage about 40 feet left of center. If you were at these shows you will mention the rain within 30 seconds of recalling the experience. It rained at least a portion of every day of the three. On this Friday, it had been raining off and on all afternoon. It was raining for the first few minutes of first set, then stopped. It started pouring about 10 minutes into the second set and didn't let up until the encore. Phil was standing in water on the stage while local crew were squeeging waves if water off the stage. Somehow, for our second only master we made a decent recording as we thought to place one of those cheap plastic poncho's they sell at venues up and over the cowboy hat. Hard to truly say after 35 years, but this show will always be my most remembered Red Rocks show as it was my first, and the experience led me to make sure it would not be my last time there. The complete story of our summer tour can be read in the text file.

flac16 ; Recorded By Mason Taylor on a Nakamichi 550 Cassette Deck, on chrome tapes; Senn 441's>Sony D5>Mason's Nak 550: Transferred on Mason's restored Nak550 properly
Taper Notes:
View Notes"Mason B. Taylor was a taper from Chicago that recorded concerts by many bands in the Chicagoland area and on Dead tours. He used a Nakamichi 550 with Nakamichi 300 mics with shotgun capsules for most of his earlier recordings. In later years he used Sony D-5 and Sony D-3 cassette recorders with Nakamichi 300 mics. Mason captured spectacular musical moments and loved to share them with his closest friends. In honor of Mason and all the love he put into his recordings we are now able to share these moments with those who can appreciate them most. As the shows get uploaded we would love for you to share your stories about the epic times the music evokes so we can all dial back into that moment when the magic was happening. Thanks to Mason’s family and his Chicago and Cleveland friends for opening up Mason’s Jar…" Note: OK, it's the rain day at Red Rocks so Mason patched into a 441>d5>to his 550 for the show..lots of talking girls, rain on the umbrellas, worries about mics coming down or not, and all that jazz, but as GD freaks, we sorta enjoy hearing all this stuff. Far from perfect, but its what happened!
