I started a personal DBB retrospective in 2017 by transferring and posting the amazing 3 week "Boot Camp" run from April 1999. Well, as part of that DBB Deep Dive, I had also transferred a whole bunch of other Deep Banana masters that do not circulate -- and this is one of them. At only 17 minutes long, one might say "Well, what's the big deal about this one?" Well, on this very significant day, the band was playing a festival in Brandywine, MD called the Allgood. At this point the band was regularly on fire -- they had just come off of the Boot Camp run less than one month before, and you can hear that they CAME TO PLAY. Right out of the gate, the band quickly finds its footing (while the festival sound mix takes a minute to catch up with them) and by the time they get to their 3rd song "Get'chall In The Mood", the band is deep in the funk. Well, as you can hear from the recording, a huge storm begins to roll in. I'm not sure anyone was prepared for how huge the storm was and how much wind was coming along. The storm descends quickly, and when the wind hits the stage, the lighting rig comes crashing down on the band -- narrowly missing coming right down on the drummer Eric Kalb. The band stops abruptly and the show is thus aborted. This was a very short show -- not a ton of music here....but in terms of Deep Banana history, this is a highly significant recording. I started a personal DBB retrospective in 2017 by transferring and posting the amazing 3 week "Boot Camp" run from April 1999. Well, as part of that DBB Deep Dive, I had also transferred a whole bunch of other Deep Banana masters that do not circulate -- and this is one of them. At only 17 minutes long, one might say "Well, what's the big deal about this one?" Well, on this very significant day, the band was playing a festival in Brandywine, MD called the Allgood. At this point the band was regularly on fire -- they had just come off of the Boot Camp run less than one month before, and you can hear that they CAME TO PLAY. Right out of the gate, the band quickly finds its footing (while the festival sound mix takes a minute to catch up with them) and by the time they get to their 3rd song "Get'chall In The Mood", the band is deep in the funk. Well, as you can hear from the recording, a huge storm begins to roll in. I'm not sure anyone was prepared for how huge the storm was and how much wind was coming along. The storm descends quickly, and when the wind hits the stage, the lighting rig comes crashing down on the band -- narrowly missing coming right down on the drummer Eric Kalb. The band stops abruptly and the show is thus aborted. This was a very short show -- not a ton of music here....but in terms of Deep Banana history, this is a highly significant recording.
