View NotesWARREN ZEVON & THE ODDS CHESTNUT CABARET, PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA DECEMBER 26, 1991 (LATE SHOW) G2 MASTER AUDIENCE RECORDING Fresh Transfer 2017 SONY D8* MASTER CASSETTE>AUDACITY>TLH>FLAC * This is probably a typo and actually a Sony D3 master. The previous night was recorded by the same taper with a Sony D3 and the Sony TCD-D8 is a DAT recorder released in 1993. Seeded to www.dimeadozen.org on February 8, 2017 by realomind. Uploaded to the Live Music Archive on March 31, 2017 by Tim Burke ([email protected]). Notes: Here's another fresh transfer of one of my favorite recordings. After the recent JEMS 1977 share I was inspired to revisit this memorable night. It was one of my first 5 uploads, out of over 1500, so I guess that speaks volumes about the performance. I always referred to the Mr. Bad Example Tour as Warren's Arc/Weld tour. The songs are delivered with a very heavy hand and deafening volume. When I first shared this someone got really upset with me for saying that Warren was playing the slow, but heavy guitar solo in PIANL. The guys from The Odds handled most of the leads for sure, but Warren played a couple too. I remember standing there 15 feet directly in front of WZ thinking "I can't believe Warren is playing lead!" There is a fabulous show from Cleveland about 10 days after this, a stellar fm broadcast that is essential, but this is might be an even better performance. It was the first time in forever that WZ had done two shows in one night and the band was on fire for this late show. Warren warned the crowd that the setlist would be basically the same as the early show..."I don't magically turn into Lloyd Cole at midnight." As I said, heavy hand, but also heavy material...Boom Boom, Detox, First We Take Manhattan, Jungle Work, Model Citizen all RLF. Most of my tapes benefit from a bit of extra bass...on this I recommend turning the treble up a couple of notches. I was in the sweet spot, you can hear everyone well. For a PACKED standing room show there are really no issues, the deafening on stage volume took care of any stray talkers. Recommended for those who like Rock and Roll. WARREN ZEVON - VOCALS, STUN GUITAR, PIANO THE ODDS - EVERYTHING ELSE no mp3's, no selling, YES SHARING - "Your last shirt wont have a pocket" [Lone Taper] please no remastered reposts - it is what it is. “It ain’t perfect, but it ain’t bad” Enjoy!!

View NotesWARREN ZEVON & THE ODDS CHESTNUT CABARET, PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA DECEMBER 26, 1991 *EARLY SHOW* G2 MASTER AUDIENCE RECORDING FRESH TRANSFER 2017 SONY D3 MASTER CASSETTE>AUDACITY>TLH>FLAC Seeded to www.dimeadozen.org on February 15, 2017 by realomind. Uploaded to the Live Music Archive on March 30, 2017 by Tim Burke ([email protected]). Notes: Short version: Better SQ than late show. Not a reseed. Long version: Following the tremendous response to the late show I thought I ought to go back and do the early show also. I just got done listening to it for the fourth time - it's amazing. The sound is completely different than the late show recording. I got there late [apparently...] and missed the first song. In other words I was not front row dfc as I was for the late show. Consequently the sound is mostly from the right PA speakers as opposed to all stage sound. What that means in this case is that the sound is WAY brighter, with vocals and drums much more prominent, but not inappropriately so. Any time there is a solo the sound man jacks it through the PA. Sometimes it takes him a couple of notes to figure out just who it is, but then it's jacked. I think it would be fair to say this has significantly better sound quality than my late show recording. They did two less songs in this show - no Jungle Work and no Mohamed's at the end. I missed the first song, so three less songs total. The tape begins a few seconds into PIANL - I put a fade-in on it to make it smoother. It is fully faded in before the vocal starts. Basically I always listened to the late show due to more songs and the memorable experience of being right in front taking it all in. So I was pretty shocked at not only how good this sounded, but the performance is close to, if not equal to the late show. Lots of great banter also. In particular I thought LG&M and Boom Boom were really strong in this set. So if you are one of the over 400 [!] who grabbed the late show I really recommend this as well. In a lot of ways a more pleasurable listen. I also did a fresh transfer of the Feb. 1990 show I recorded. These performances utterly destroy the 1990 band, and the live mix at the Tower that night was terrible [muddy, vocals too loud, music not loud enough], though my capture an accurate representation. I will share that as well at some point, but it really served to remind me just how great this tour was. no mp3's, no selling, YES SHARING - “Your last shirt wont have a pocket” - Lone Taper please no remastered reposts - it is what it is. “It ain’t perfect, but it ain’t bad” Enjoy!!
